Maria Joana navigates the discoveries and transformations of adolescence. Sheexperiences her first night of freedom and independence at the local Saint John‘sstreet celebration, testing her limits and confronting her inner fears — but notwithout consequences.

 

David Bonneville is a Portuguese filmmaker and screenwriter. He has directed numerous short films that premiered at festivals such as SXSW, Hamptons, Locarno, IndieLisboa, Tampere, and Melbourne Queer.

His feature film The Last Bath premiered at the Tokyo and São Paulo Film Festivals and was nominated for the Ingmar Bergman Award in Gothenburg. The film won the Portuguese Academy Sophia Awards for Best Film, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Art Direction, and also received the Golden Globe for Best Actress, the New Talent Award from the GDA Foundation, as well as more than 30 awards at international festivals.

Bonneville holds a BA in Sound and Image and trained in directing through the DFFB/Gulbenkian Foundation. He completed a master’s degree in screenwriting in London with an academic excellence scholarship. He has an established career as a lecturer, having taught or given masterclasses at institutions including the University of Westminster, Masaryk University, UCP, Nova FCSH, ESAD, ETIC, The Actors Centre, American Arts Center, Árvore, and the Serralves Foundation, among others.

He is currently preparing his next feature film.
