During her stay at a small army camp in the Sahara, a displaced war photographer unexpectedly finds her home.
Synopsis:
Noor (37) is an independent war photographer who has been on the road for years and is rarely ever at home. Her work is where she feels at home the most. When she travels to a remote and turbulent area in the heart of the Malian Sahara and lodges at a small forward operating base with a group of nine international special forces, things are unexpectedly shaken up. Following an attack, the camp is forced into lockdown. Being unable to do her job - to photograph women in Malian villages - makes Noor feel suffocated. The scorching hot days stretch out aimlessly before her. But it’s within this heat and emptiness that new things begin to emerge. Memories of a deeply buried childhood trauma resurface. During the sleepless nights that follow, she forms a deeper connection with idealistic soldier Patrick (38), who, like her, struggles to sleep. In each other, they recognize a similar kind of vulnerability. Noor begins to open up. Against her selfimposed beliefs, she falls in love and watches the foundations of her carefully constructed life begin to crumble. Yet it’s precisely by allowing love and its attendant pain that Noor is ultimately able to love herself and find peace and liberation in a place that she can finally call her home.
