Tagline:
A film about memory, migration, and what survives erasure.
Synopsis:
After the death of his grandmother Halime, the filmmaker returns to years of recorded conversations to confront a silenced family history. Through memories of Bulgaria’s forced name-change campaign against Muslim minorities in the 1980s, the film traces how identity, home, and belonging fracture and endure across generations. Moving between domestic spaces in Turkey and abandoned villages in Bulgaria, Kompil Mancası becomes a performative essay on loss, migration, and the act of filming as a way of continuing a dialogue with the dead.
