In a world where people transform into furniture once they’ve fulfilled their ‘purpose’, rule-abiding Zoe snaps when her partner becomes a wardrobe and joins activist Ava on a chaotic rebellion, sparking a darkly comic journey of stolen sofas and search for meaning.

Synopsis:

In a world where people who've lived ‘fulfilling’ lives pass by transforming into furniture, celebrated as life's ultimate achievement, Zoe, a directionless rule-abiding young woman working at a ‘Second Life’ furniture shop snaps when her boyfriend Josh suddenly passes and becomes a wardrobe.

Consumed by grief and rage, she destroys him, hides his passing from authorities, and joins forces with Ava, a charismatic member of the anti-passing group N.Y.O. (Not Your Ottoman), to rob the store and hurl the stolen furniture off a cliff to ‘free’ the souls trapped inside.

Now fugitives, they accidentally acquire a suicidal hostage named Lary, who yearns to die because he believes he’ll never be good enough to pass.

The unlikely trio embark on a chaotic road-trip in search of a commune rumoured to have erased passing. They eventually find the utopic place, but Zoe soon discovers it's a fraud: passing hasn’t stopped, it’s simply concealed. After a fiery escape she ignites, the trio is on the road again, only for Lary to be killed in a hit-and-run by Meredith, an obsessive celebrity-furniture collector they’d robbed.

Burying Lary and finally letting go of Josh's doorknob, Zoe drives to the edge of a cliff intending to end it all. But Ava throws away the keys and desperately tries to convince Zoe to keep searching. In that very moment, mid-sentence, Ava passes and becomes an ottoman.

Zoe’s left utterly alone, screaming into the void with grief, rage, and something that feels terrifyingly like freedom.
