7 Oscar Nominations (Barbie; Darkest Hour; Beauty and the Beast; Anna Karenina)
Katie Spencer is a seven-time Academy Award nominee, recognized for her work on a wide range of films, including Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, Sherlock Holmes, Anna Karenina, Beauty and the Beast, Darkest Hour and, most recently, Barbie. She has also been nominated for eight BAFTA Awards, winning for Atonement.
Spencer was born in Yorkshire, England, and studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. After several years working in theatres, including the Royal Court, the Almeida, and the Donmar Warehouse, she moved into television.
It was at the BBC that Spencer first met and worked with production designer Sarah Greenwood, beginning a unique and close collaboration. They have worked together on many successful films, ranging from Pride & Prejudice through to Barbie, as well as their latest period thriller, Jack of Spades, directed by Joel Coen.
Last year, the National Film and Television School bestowed its prestigious Honorary Fellowship on Spencer and Greenwood.
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles is currently hosting an exhibition showcasing the work and unique collaboration between Spencer and Greenwood.
