It’s the Eid holiday. We’re in an apartment building that is owned and lived in by three generations of a very conservative family. When the elderly grandfather gets sick, his daughters believe that his illness is because of bad luck brought on by a young woman who rents an apartment in the building. Mohamed, the grandson of the sick man, has a crush on this young woman. But when the young woman comes home in the middle of the night, bringing a man who she’s taking up to her apartment, Mohamed and the women decide to punish her for her “impure” and “scandalous” ways.

Torn between setting boundaries and preserving their trust, Hanna reluctantly decides to help her with the shaving.

The Modern Woman is a short humorous look at the beauty standards and self-improvement culture that affects young women everywhere.
