Martin Dale is a journalist with Variety since 1996 and director and producer of documentaries. He is a guest professor in the areas of cinema and audiovisual at the University of Minho. He has a PhD in Communication Sciences from the University of Minho, a bachelor and masters degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford and was a Thouron fellow in the Master of Communication at the Annenberg School of Communications, University of Pennsylvania, USA. He has worked as a consultant for the BBC, ICA, RTP, Tobis and Ministry of Culture. He is an axpert and evaluator for the European Commission under Horizon2020.

He has published two books on the film industry: Europa, Europa (1992) and The Movie Game (1997). He is also a professional translator of academic, legal, cultural and contemporary art texts.
