With sessions directed to three different age groups (below 6 yo, between 6 and 12 and below 16), FESTinha aims to raise a new generation of cinephiles, encouraging them to analyse and criticize films.
For the session aimed at children under 6 years old, we selected content that was not limited to entertainment. Films that, besides being able to entertain and capture the children’s attention, also had the ability to pass down a positive message and have some artistic merit. With the highlight to the French animation school, ESMA, presenting several productions of great thematic relevance and innovation.
In the session for a bit more mature audience, until the age of 12, we chose to make some bold choices, presenting some works that, even in a simpler and captivating tone for very young minds, will address vital issues to nowadays society with a certain depth.
To prepare for the sub 16 session, FEST joined forces with the American Film Showcase to present four documentary features produced in the United States. Once more focusing on quite different but hugely relevant themes, from the girls role in a predominantly male environments to scientific and technological advances.
All sessions of FESTinha have free entry and take place at Cinema Casino. This section includes three young jury panels that, after a workshop with some experts, where they will be encouraged to develop their aesthetic and film narrative interpretation capacities, will choose the best film of the sessions directed for their age group.
