DOME KARUKOSKI'S "TOM OF FINLAND" OPENS FEST 2017
25.05.2017

Now that we are only four weeks away from the opening of the 13th edition of FEST – New Directors | New Films Festival, it is with great pleasure that we begin launching the film program, starting off with the opening film, “Tom of Finland” by finish director Dome Karukoski.

The film portrays the troubled life of Touko Laaksonen, better known as Tom of Finland, a pioneer and iconic figure in XXth century homoerotic art.

Karukoski, who in 2009 won the Best Feature Film Award at FEST with “home of the Dark Butterflies”, returns now to our event with his most ambitious film so far, which as had an impressive run since its premiere at the prestigious Goteborg Film Festival, where it won the Fipresci award.

The most recent work by Dome Karukoski already has a date for its commercial release in Portugal, the 6th of July, being launched by Cinemundo, whom the organization of FEST would like to thank and congratulate.

We’ll also take this opportunity to announce the dates of disclosure for the remaining categories of 2017 FEST - New Directors | New Films Festival program
