10.01.2017

The official selection of the Berlinale has been released. The festival happens in less than a month – from the 09th of February to the 19th – and has in its selection films from former FEST - New Directors | New Films Festival’ directors, as well as many Portuguese films, just like in 2016.

The film “Centauro / Zentaur” from Argentinian director Nicolás Suárez is in the short-film’s category. Nicolás had a Special Mention in the 2016 FEST for the feature film “Easy Ball”, co-directed with Juan Fernandez Gebauer.

Portuguese Diogo Costa Amarante is also selected in the short-film section with the film “Cidade Pequena / Kleine Stadt”. Diogo, like Nicolás, was also at FEST 2016 with his film “As Rosas Brancas”, winner of the National Grand-Prix.

In the short-film selection there’s also Salomé Lamas’ “Coup de Grâce / Gnadenschuss”. Salomé was in FEST’s competition with the documentary short “A Comunidade”.

In the same section, the works of Portuguese directors João Salaviza and Gabriel Abrantes,Altas Cidades de Ossadas / Hohe Stadt aus Totengebein” and “Os Humores Artificiais / Die Kunstlichen Humore”, are present, respectively.

In the feature film’s competition, in addition to “Colo” from Teresa Villaverde, which had been previously announced, it’s worth emphasizing the Brazilian-Portuguese co-production “Joaquim”, with Portuguese actor Nuno Lopes starring.

At the Berlinale Talents, the annual summit that happens alongside the festival, there are two Portuguese directors: Mário Patrocínio and Luís Campos. And Portuguese actress Victoria Guerra is highlighted in the Shooting Stars event.

This year, Portuguese cinema will shine again in Berlin and FEST will be there with all the news!
