Valerio Bonelli is a film editor who has worked on feature films and television productions all over the world. He grew up in Italy and moved to the UK at the age of 22 to study at the National Film and Television School.

Valerio collaborated with Cosima Spender on the documentary Without Gorky (2011), and in a range of feature films including Cemetery Junction (2010) directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant; Cracks (2009) directed by Jordan Scott; Incendiary (2008), which was directed by Sharon Maguire and Hannibal Rising (2007) directed by Peter Webber and produced by the legendary Italian producer, Dino De Laurentis.

2015 was also a very successful year, with Valerio cutting three critically acclaimed films including: Cosima Spender’s BIFA nominated documentary, Palio, which won Valerio the ‘Best Documentary Editing Award’ at Tribeca Film Festival; Stephen Frears' Lance Armstrong biopic, The Program, as well as co-editing Ridley Scott’s Oscar and BAFTA nominated, The Martian.

In 2017 Valerio cut Darkest Hour, directed by Joe Wright and produced by Working Title and Focus Feature. The film conquered 6 Academy Award Nominations including Best Picture. This follows his work on Joe Wright’s recent episode of Black Mirror: Nosedive (aired 21st of October, 2016), for Netflix.

Valerio’s recent credits include Florence Foster Jenkins (2016), the third film that Bonelli has cut for Stephen Frears Gurinder Chadha’s and Viceroy’s House (2017), produced by BBC Films and Pathe. He is currently working on the directorial feature debut of Chiwetel Ejiofor The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.
