A 1970 graduate of Paris' Institut de Formation Cinematographique, Portuguese director and producer Luís Galvão Teles spent his early career involved with militant cinema.
He was an assistant director in RTP and was from an early stage a member of the Portuguese Centre of Cinema.
Teles, José Fonseca e Costa, and Jorge Marecos Duarte teamed up in 1978 to found Filmform.
In 1981, Teles stopped directing feature films and began directing advertising films, a career path he pursued until 1991 when he returned to features with Retrato de Familia.
In 1997 also founded Fado Filmes, producer of films such as Jaime (1999), Dot.com (2007) and O Último Voo do Flamingo (2010).
Some of his latest works as a director were Gelo (2016), co-directed with his son Gonçalo Galvão Teles and with original screenplay by Luís Diogo and Refrigerantes e Canções de Amor (2016), with original screenplay by the Portuguese humorist Nuno Markl.
