Itto, a young woman from a modest rural background, is slowly adapting to the Moroccan privileged codes of her husband’s family. But when supernatural events put the country in a state of emergency, Itto finds herself separated from her husband and new family. Alone, pregnant and looking for her way back, she finds emancipation. This sci-fi drama with a political and theological edge, is truly a one of a kind film which takes us into a journey of self-discovery and independence of a young mother in an alternative future that is not so different from the struggles of contemporary reality. After a successful premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award, Sofia Alaoui’s first feature is certainly a sign of greet things to come from the French-Moroccan filmmaker.
