Synopsis

Born in Evin follows Maryam Zaree on her quest to find out the true nature of the violent circumstances surrounding her birth in the most notorious political prison in Iran. Forty years have passed since the Islamic Republic was declared, and the ensuing persecution of tens of thousands of political opponents, who were arrested and murdered. Yet the culture of silence related to those years is still deafening. The family, exiled in Germany for many decades now, never talked about their persecution and imprisonment. Maryam takes on an endearing personal journey through different corners of Europe, in a documentary that is revealing, eye-opening and intensely unforgettable.
