O Leite das Monarcas by Francisco Nuno Rodrigues | PRT | 10’

A child hears a secret whispered amongst the woods; as he searches for its meaning, seemingly static images come to life, revealing a story never before recorded: the forbidden hunger of a monarch.

Francisco Nuno Rodrigues (b. 2001, Madeira Island) is an artist and filmmaker based in Lisbon, Portugal. His work provokes intimate moments of friction where documentation, narrative, and desire grind against one another. He approaches moving image as a confessional: an alternate space where, through tender cycles of vulnerability, destruction, and transformation, identity is both excavated and revealed.

Rodrigues’s moving image and installation works have been exhibited in Portugal and abroad, including at Dupla Cena 77 (Lisbon), VAGA – espaço de arte e conhecimento (Azores), and No 20 Arts (London). O Leite das Monarcas, his debut short film, extends his ongoing research into the possibilities of refusal through an exploration of the family archive as myth.
