Maria Joana navigates the discoveries and transformations of adolescence. Sheexperiences her first night of freedom and independence at the local Saint John‘sstreet celebration, testing her limits and confronting her inner fears — but notwithout consequences.

David Bonneville is a Portuguese writer-director. He has directed several short films which have premiered at festivals such as Locarno, Tampere, Brest, Chéris-Chéries, Melbourne Queer or SXSW, and have garnered over 40 accolades.
Bonneville’s debut feature THE LAST BATH premiered in 2020 at the Tokyo International Film Festival and Mostra de São Paulo. Set between Oporto and a sun-drenched Douro-valley region (UNESCO heritage site), the film was an Ingmar Bergman Award nominee at the Gothenburg Film Festival.
It won Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Art Direction at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts Sophia Awards, Portugal. It has also won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Anabela Moreira), along with the Screen Actors Guild GDA Newcomer Award (Martim Canavarro). The film has received over 40 other prizes at international festivals.
The Last Bath has been released in Japan; widely across cinemas in Portugal, with limited releases in Luxembourg, France, the UK and the Czech Republic (2024).
Bonneville holds a University of Westminster Screenwriting MA, a Catholic University of Portugal First-class (Hons) Media BA, and a (DFFB) German Film Academy Berlin Directing Diploma. He has worked for the BBC in London and started his filmmaking career as an assistant to Turner Prize winner Douglas Gordon and Palme d’Or winner Manoel de Oliveira.
David also lectures on film, scriptwriting and performance for the screen at a variety of academies.
