Bia, a Census worker, sets out on a relentless quest to find the last inhabitant of a remote village, in the hope of preventing it from becoming a mere statistical value, sunk into oblivion.

 

 

Flávio Ferreira is a filmmaker and editor. His short films have been screened more than 150 times at festivals and film showcases, and have won around 25 awards or honourable mentions. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Film from the University of Beira Interior and was the recipient of the EDP Manoel de Oliveira Scholarship, worth 50,000 euros. He has undertaken various film courses in countries such as Brazil, Germany and England.

He was selected for a workshop in Cuba with Werner Herzog, where he filmed the short documentary Norley y Norlen, winner of the FAMU Award for Best Film in the Verdes Anos section at Doclisboa, and for a workshop in Ourense (Spain) with Pedro Costa, where he directed the short documentary Mulher como Árvore, recipient of a Sophia Award from the Portuguese Film Academy.

He worked for four years at Fado Filmes as a post-production coordinator, having collaborated on six feature films and two television series, notably: Deserto Particular (2021), winner of the Audience Award (Giornate Degli Autori) at the Venice Film Festival, and the documentary O Silêncio de Goya (2022), which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

He was the editor of the series A Rainha e a Bastarda (2022) and Histórias da Montanha (2023), which premiered on RTP1. He was also nominated for a Sophia Award from the Portuguese Film Academy for his work as editor on the feature film Nunca Nada Aconteceu (2022).

He recently directed the short films Couto and Bye Bye, shot in Minho and Macau (China), respectively. His first feature film Desgarrada, winner of the ICA’s Primeiras Obras L.M. Ficção 2023 grant, is currently in post-production.
