Pedro M. Afonso
A Portuguese filmmaker, editor and researcher based in Porto. He directed his first short film in 2020, entitled Troca Por Troca, which premiered at the Curtas Vila do Conde Festival and received nominations from various national and international festivals, including a nomination for the Sophia Student Awards from the Portuguese Film Academy and selections at the Caminhos do Cinema Português, YMOTION, CRASH and FICBC festivals, amongst others.
His documentary short Exame de Si Mesmo (2021) won the Best Portuguese Film Award at CINALFAMA and was selected for prestigious festivals such as the Norwich Film Festival (BAFTA Qualifying), Tallinn Black Nights (OSCAR Qualifying), MecalPro (GOYA Qualifying), among others.
Maelstrom (2023), his most recent film, premiered at MOTELX and received several award nominations. He is currently developing his first fiction series alongside J. L. Peixoto, produced by HOP! Filmes and funded by the ICA.
As an editor, he has worked on the films Colégio do Templo: Paramnésia and A Pianista, as well as the project MUSIKA PERIPHERIKA.
