Washed Sheets is a film essay that dives into the world of childhood fears. Through mixing animation, along with photography, and footage from the director’s own childhood. The film gives form to the monsters of her past, bringing them into real life, in an attempt to understand and confront these fears. This project offers a visually unique journey through memory and healing.

Maria Lima is 19 years old, comes from Lisbon, and is currently studying Film at the Catholic University of Porto. She has already directed several short films, notably her first film, O Elefante na Sala. This project, developed as part of her school curriculum, served as her Artistic Aptitude Test at the Soares dos Reis School of Art.
This film was nominated for six film festivals, including the Sophia Student Awards, Fantasporto and Porto Femme. It also received two awards: Best Secondary School Film at the 10th edition of YMOTION and Best Experimental Film at the Arganil Short Film Festival.
Another short film she directed, Nenúfares, an animated film, was nominated for two competitions within the Monstra Festival: Best Very Short Film and the Vasco Granja Awards. It also received an honourable mention in the Very Short Films category.
Maria Lima’s career, still in its early stages, already demonstrates a strong artistic sensibility and a promising authorial vision, which set her apart on the Portuguese young student cinema scene.
