Hiroshima Mon Amour | Alan Resnais | FRA | 92’
Alain Resnais' first feature film is one of the greatest classics in the history of cinema. A French actress, who is acting in a film about peace in Hiroshima, falls in love with a Japanese man. This impossible love evokes her first love: he was 18 years old in Nerves in 1944. The young Bavarian man she loved was killed by Maquis fighters. Her hair was shaved off and her parents hid her in a basement. Sharing her atrocious memory with her Japanese lover brings them even closer, but the social constrains of their marriages pulls them apart forever.
