Undine | Christian Petzold | DEU, FRA | 91’
“If you leave me, I'll have to kill you,” says the protagonist to the man she's in love with when they break up at the cafe on the corner. Diving into the subtle realm of the supernatural, Christian Petzold re-imagines the mythological figure of the aquatic nymph, Ondina, who becomes human when she falls in love and dies when her lover betrays her, transporting her into a 21st century love story. Here, Undine is a historian working in the city of Berlin's urban development department. Rewriting the myth, the film presents a reflection on the relationship between reality and illusion.
