Synopsis
Mila is a teenager with a serious illness. When she falls in love with Moses, a young tearaway whose only purpose in life is to wander the streets selling drugs, Mila’s parents must decide whether to accept their daughter’s final wish or to protect her. The Australian director Shannon Murphy builds a curious dilemma, filled with dark humour. With a fatal disease as the backdrop, this creates a tender and provocative portrait of how we adjust in the face of adversity. So much boldness in an ostensibly light film has proven a success. As well as winning two awards at the last Venice Film Festival, Babyteeth has become one of the biggest audience successes of Australian cinema from the past 10 years.
