Synopsis

In an impoverished country, rife with contradictions, a young girl is torn between her obligation to her family and the influence of foreign visitors. Dekel Berenson’s short film functions as a masterclass on the effects of mass tourism in the normal lives of a local community which is not necessarily so ready for a fast pace of change. With an intimidating protagonist at the helm of the narrative, Ashmina is a powerful experience about how a young girl finds an unexpected way to thrive in the world, that threatens her home.
