Vittorio Iervese is Professor in Sociology of Cultural and Communicative Processes at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, where he also directs the LAMA - Laboratory for the Analysis of Audiovisual Materials and the advanced studies programme: Dhialogue - Digital Humanities for Cultural Organisations and Companies. Since 2007, he collaborates with Festival dei Popoli - Italian Institute for Social Documentation Film, of which he became President in 2018.

He has conducted, among other things, research and projects on visual culture, documentary cinema, new immersive and interactive technologies.
