As we continue through this voyage through this year’s selection, the time has come to reveal what films made it to our Portuguese Short Film competition, as well as what will be on display in our NEXXT section, the academic film competition.
Two screenings packed with different genres and formats will provide a unique look into some of the most ambitious and ground-breaking films produced by this new and talented generation of Portuguese artists. The Portuguese competition includes mostly fiction works, with, among others, the return of Bernardo Lopes, who after the success of his previous film, he returns to FEST with “Ivan”, a film that will force the audience to reconsider a lot of the options they made during their youth. This competition is not limited to fiction, with Mário Macedo’s “Maria Sem Pecado” representing the format in great style, with a film about the return of an ex-con, who after years in prison is left alone to take care of his sick mother. Still in this section, it is impossible not to mention the presence of two of the most successful Portuguese productions in several years: The Golden Bear winner “Balada de um Batráquio” by Leonor Teles and the staggering “Ascenção” by Pedro Peralta.
