New Directors | New Films
Postponement of FEST 2020

FEST – ND | NF carries on with its 16th edition, this year between the 2nd and the 9th of August, instead of the initially planned 22nd to the 29th of June

It is with great pleasure we announce FEST 2020 will take place physically, and has evaded the possibility of cancellation or moving 100% online, however, we will embrace changes in our 2020 edition.

We are strongly committed to the thousands of film-makers that submitted their films to our festival, all the professionals who attend our activities, and our community.  With them in mind, we drew the plan for our very different 2020 edition.

We will have more screenings, and go hand in hand with some Cinema theatres to showcase the films we select in screens around the country, as we are true believers on the importance of Cinema theatres and the experience they provide. Cinema theatres were already under severe stress before the pandemic, and now their survival is even more at stake, so we will expand this edition of the festival to more locations throughout the country simultaneously. As a new experience, we will also host a Drive-In Cinema, welcoming all our audiences who prefer to be in the comfort of a more confined space.

Our sought out Professional program will suffer significant changes in 2020:

FEST – Pitching Forum, with 28 projects in development will take on a streaming format, allowing film-makers from all over the world to present their projects to a panel of top distributors, producers, and investors for a chance at winning development and co-production awards. This will be a new opportunity, as the new format will allow having a bigger panel of experts and a worldwide audience, accessing industry gatekeepers that would otherwise not be available to travel for the physical part of the Pitching Forum.

FEST – Training Ground, Director’s Hub and the Industry Meetings and several other networking activities are postponed for next year’s edition, as we believe that proper conditions are not available for us to proceed with these activities without compromising seriously the important part of networking and exchange of knowledge, that require personal interaction. Alternatively, FEST will be holding, throughout the year and in an online format, new initiatives for professionals, as our Festival takes pride in being an epicenter for discussion and exchange of knowledge. An example of this is our essays done during the past months focusing on “The New Reality of the Film Industry after the COVID-19” currently available.

Due to the resizing of FEST, we are not able to receive our Professional participants and guests safely without giving up the warm atmosphere, and therefore we will not be able to offer the FEST PRO and FEST TALENT Badges, and the professionals that have purchased them are eligible for a refund.

In August, may we all be as close as ‘far away’ allows.
