Synopsis
Andina Quintana is a Peruvian composer living in New York. She is trying to write her magnum opus but an ailment is obstructing the process; her period won’t stop.
Desperate to get back to work, Andina visits her gynecologist who eagerly suggests removing her uterus since she has no interest in having children.
That night, Andina’s deceased mother, Mama Lidia urges Andina to travel back to Peru to seek the help of Candelario; a blood-cleansing healer whose alternative methods may save her uterus.
The following day, Andina packs her bags and heads to the Amazonian highlands of Peru.
Candelario’s healing center, “Sana Sangre” is perched on a lush mountainside facing the Gocta waterfall. His assistants, Sergio and Bonita, are a fiery couple trying to conceive. Andina is instantly attracted to Bonita and a deep sexual tension begins.
Two other patients are being treated that month: a dramatic Chilean man named Orion with a rotten family bloodline and a sweet French dancer named Genevieve battling Leukemia. A strong friendship blossoms between the patients.
During the final phase of their treatment, the group finds Genevieve dead; Andina is devastated. Bonita's attempt to comfort her turns intimate and they engage in transcendental lovemaking.
The next day, Andina leaves Sana Sangre.
Back home, she wakes up to clean underwear. At the premiere of her magnum opus, Mama Lidia notices something different about Andina; her belly is swollen with new life.
