"Persepolis" Director Marjane Satrapi confirmed at FEST 2019 Industry Program

Marjane Satrapi, the author and director of “Persepolis”, is the most recent confirmation for the 2019 Industry Program of FEST

Graphic novelist, illustrator, children’s book author and film director, - nominated for an Academy Award for “Persepolis” (2007) - Marjane Satrapi is nowadays one of the most respected voices in the world, distinguished both for her biographic graphic novels and films alike. At FEST, she will be presenting a Masterclass overlooking her life and career, and how the two are interconnected. 

The graphic novel that would later turn into her directing debut, “Persepolis”, is an autobiography that portrays Satrapi’s childhood with the backdrop of a conflicting Iran.  “Persepolis” won the Jury Prize in Cannes and was nominated for Best Animated Feature Film in the 2008 Academy Awards. The film was a huge critical success but it also did extremely well in the box office collecting more than 25 million dollars worldwide.    

Marjane is also known for films like “Chicken with Plums” (2011), that revolves around the story of her great-uncle, a musician who opts to die when he cannot adequately replace his broken instrument and “The Voices” (2014), an unusual dark comedy that follows an empathic serial killer played by Ryan Reynolds. She is currently directing the much-anticipated biopic of Marie Curietitled “Radioactive”, based on the graphic novel by Lauren Redniss and scheduled to be released in 2020.
