We reveal two more speakers confirmed for FEST 2019’s Industry Program.
Jonathan Morris, editor largely known for his extensive years of collaboration with director Ken Loach, will be presenting a Training Ground masterclass at FEST’s 15th edition, focused on “Editing Social Realism”.
"Social Realism" films tend to focus on day-to-day life problems and how to face them. Since both Morris and Loach are British, the films they work on are mainly concentrated on Britain's lower/middle-class struggles. With Morris' acute sense of aesthetics and, generally being the first viewer of the films, the editor is well accustomed to the constrictions that social realism entails.
He will be shedding a light on how to add a more realistic look and naturalistic feel to a movie. His masterclass will give aspiring editors and filmmakers the opportunity to understand the singularity of editing a specific film type.
Also confirmed at FEST is Scandar Copti. The Academy Award-nominated director will be presenting a workshop centered in “Directing Non-Actors”, where he will share his approach onto the main techniques for capturing genuine human emotion, from genuine human people, on camera. This casting and directing style, adopted in the director’s first long feature film “Ajami” (2009), presses for casting regular people in feature films. It earned Scandar Copti the Camera d’Or Special Mention in Cannes and catapulted him into the international limelight, allowing him to travel the world and explain the process of training improvisation and making non-actors lose their fear of the camera.
FEST is a worldwide recognized film forum that offers a varied industry program, while also promoting and encouraging a strong networking environment.
You will not want to miss the Industry Meetings, a platform for one-to-one gatherings between industry experts (filmmakers, producers, distributors, financiers) and FEST participants, encompassed in the no VIP zone policy.
Following the same core principle, FEST organizes Networking Dinners, that create an opportunity for networking with other participants and speakers while savouring a delicious meal of Portuguese food and wine, with an ocean sunset view. The Networking Dinners require separate registration and are limited to the first 150 festival participants.
Both the Industry Meetings and the Networking Dinners offer a chance to build the basis for collaborations, partnerships, mentorships or simply friendships, between the guest speakers, other industry players and FEST attendees.
The industry program and networking events are available via our FEST - Pro and FEST - Talent badges.
