What to see, hear and participate today at FEST!
COMPETIÇÃO INTERNACIONAL LONGAS
The International Feature Film Competition starts today with the exhibitions of Old Stone (9 pm || Multimeios) and The Invisible Hand (11 pm || Casino Espinho).
Directed by Johny Ma, Old Stone starts as a social drama about the consequences that can arrise from the complex burocratic system of modern China and quickly develops into one of the most unpredictable thrillers made in the last years. To those who appreciate social engaged cinema, another good option is The Invisible Hand, the latest David Macián work that focuses on the unstable Spanish labour market, that has been dealing with austerity for the last years.
FLAVOURS OF THE WORLD: GREEK SELECTION . 2 pm . Spatium (Multimeios)
Few in Europe have resisted the charms of the now notorious Greek Weird Wave movement and its explosive cocktail of eeriness and "repressed" violence, which has taken the film world by storm. Greece may be struggling financially, but that is surely not an issue in its film scene and the brand new generation of artists that have come out in recent years are showing more than enough confidence to expect even greater heights. If you have any doubts about this fact, then you are in for treat. In one extraordinary program, organized by Greek programmer Dimitris Argyriou (New Born Fim Agency), we've managed to compile all the essential new figures: Konstantin Kotzamani (present at Cannes Critics Week), Jacqueline Lentzou, Konstantinos Kalogridis and Dimitris Katsimiris).
IAIN SMITH: THE PERILOUS LIFECYCLE OF THE PRODUCER . 6 pm . Auditório Multimeios
In this masterclass Iain Smith will address the main issue of a producer’s life: the process of creating something out of nothing: how to lift a project of the ground and transform an idea into a full set, cast and crew.
