Since it first captured the imagination of the masses in the 1890s, film has revealed itself as an ever-growing and ever-changing medium. The constant arrival of new figures, styles, and discourses into the global scene is relentless, and the task of keeping up with everything new about cinema is everything but easy. Just over 15 years ago, when our event began to take shape, this was not an easier challenge. As such FEST decided to make its imperative mission to create a platform where newcomers could find their own corner under the spotlight, and develop the role of the event as a bridge between the present and the future of filmmaking.
Today FEST – New Directors | New Films Festival is an all-encompassing celebration of the new tendencies of world cinema. Constantly on the lookout for fresh new content by some of the most promising rising starts, our programming team provides our audience with a widespread glimpse into the most essential works of the year. As such, FEST - New Directors | New Films Festival is an absolutely vital arena for all those interested in finding out what is the future of FILM!
The film program is focused on a series of competitive and non-competitive film exhibitions, covering different formats and styles, such as Feature and Short length Fiction, Documentary, Animation and Experimental Non-Narrative films. Our selection also includes content directed at children and young audiences, as well as a much essential peak into the world of Virtual and Augmented Reality.
The 15th edition of the festival will take place between the 24th of June and the 1st of July 2019, in the seaside town of Espinho (Portugal).
